The Robinson Estate – Chapter Fifteen – Post 15

Chapter Fifteen is the moment Awakening shifts from mystery into siege, a breathless escalation where identity, memory, and survival collide.

Michelle, Maryanne, and Jaxxon begin the chapter racing against time. They cannot risk returning to Mendel, even though Maryanne now has citizenship. Instead, they head directly to the drone port, where Jaxxon arrives late, shaken from AASID interrogation. “I was terrified beyond belief,” he admits, hands trembling as he configures Holi’s quantum‑arch drive. The tension is suffocating, they have minutes before their drone departs.

The DECON sequence is claustrophobic and visceral: sealed masks, polymer spray, roaring fans, and the countdown ticking toward zero. Michelle’s breath fogs inside her helmet as she urges Maryanne through the process. They sprint to the transport, reaching it with seconds to spare. The drone lifts, cloaked by Holi, and carries them toward the foothills, toward the Robinson Estate.

The estate is a decaying monument of privilege, swallowed by brush and silence. Michelle feels a strange pull, dread mixed with familiarity. A memory flickers: “a morning sun flashing into my mind from some distant memory.” But there is no time to reflect. Movement stirs in the treeline. Shadows break into clearings. Twilights, dozens of them, are converging on the house.

The siege begins.

Jaxxon fights to reboot the estate’s AI while Michelle and Maryanne watch the horde climb the walls. “Our worst nightmare,” Michelle whispers. They barely make it inside before the door seals, a twilight slamming into it mid‑leap. The thumping bodies shake the foyer. Holi activates deterrence, but it will take ten minutes to charge.

Then footsteps behind them.

A silhouette approaches, not a twilight, but a humanoid bot. Andy.

Michelle freezes, childhood trauma detonating inside her. But Andy smiles gently: “Hello, Miss Michelle. It is so lovely to see you again.” His presence is a shock wave, a living memory, a guardian, a witness. And he knows why they’re here. “If you are here, then you have come to see the portrait.”

He leads them through the grand halls as twilights pound on shutters. The house groans under the assault. Holi warns of a faulty circuit. The deterrence system is failing.

They reach the portrait, a red‑haired woman painted in 1763.

Maryanne collapses instantly, “going down like a detonated building.” Michelle checks her vitals, elevated heart rate, but stable. The portrait is not just art. It is a trigger.

This chapter is terror, revelation, and memory braided together. The estate becomes a crucible: a place where past and present collide, where monsters climb the walls, and where identity begins to fracture open.

Teaser question: When the house you enter knows your name, your past, and your future, who were you before you died?
