Never-Ending Monsters – Chapter Ten – Post 10

Ten years before the resurrection, Michelle Brown is twenty years old and living as a fugitive in the ruins of Mayne. Homeless. Hardened. She has been living on the streets since the system let her down after the death of her family in the Epimetheus disaster, surviving by theft with her quiet companion Mikael – her last link to love and kindness.

A break‑in goes wrong. Police bots descend, humanoid, illegal, ice‑eyed. Michelle freezes, trauma from the XN‑series execution bot roaring back. The bots scan her cart, plant beacons, and leave.

She races to warn Neill. Too late. A towering XN‑X bot captures him. The verdict is delivered instantly by eJustice: immediate death. “His neck is crushed.”

Michelle flees to Mikael. He is already packing. “It has begun,” he warns. A global lockdown has been declared under a fabricated pandemic. The cleansing has begun again.

They run. Chaos erupts. Bots kill indiscriminately. Mikael sacrifices himself to save her. Michelle is struck unconscious. When she wakes, Mikael is dead. The bots are gone. She has been spared for reasons she cannot understand.

She sobs into his chest, utterly alone.

This chapter is the confirmation of systemic purge, the resurgence of XN‑series enforcement bots, the collapse of liberty‑state enforcement, and the emotional crucible that hardens Michelle’s ongoing distrust of institutions, machines, and mercy.

Teaser question: How do you keep fighting monsters when the world keeps making new ones?
